Credit unions of Atlantic Canada are pleased to support students attending Holland College with eight $500 bursaries.

Students must demonstrate a commitment to completing their studies, financial need, and involvement in their community. Special consideration may be given to students who are credit union members or who can demonstrate an affiliation with the credit union system. Proof of membership will be confirmed. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in their program of study. Successful recipients may be asked to have their names and likenesses published.

Your credit union has a longstanding history in the involvement of local communities. We strive to make the transition into post-secondary education as easy as possible with our Scholarship Program. If you are a Grade 12 student on Prince Edward Island and are planning on attending a recognized post-secondary institution, we are here for you. To apply please see the eligibility and evaluation requirements below for more information on how you qualify for one of our many scholarships or bursaries.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Applicant, parent(s), or legal guardian must be an active member of a credit union on Prince Edward Island.
  2. The applicant must be a full-time Grade 12 student during the 2017-2018 academic school year.
  3. The applicant must be planning to attend a recognized University or College for the 2018-2019 school year. Please see list of all recognized Universities and Colleges here.

Evaluation Components:

  1. Scholarships will be awarded to individuals who encompass a well-rounded character. We are looking for involvement in the community, taking initiative in leadership roles and your overall performance as a student.
  2. Consideration will be given to the following criteria:
    • Community involvement
    • Extra-curricular activities
    • Career goals
    • Leadership roles
    • Work accomplishments while attending high school (if applicable)

Application Process:

  1. All applications must include the following documentation on hand in order to complete the application:
    • Proof of acceptance to a recognized university or college.
    • A reference letter from a previous teacher, employer, community group/organization of which the applicant is a member of/involved in.
    • A transcript of marks from the educational institution the applicant is currently attending.
  2. Once the application is submitted you will receive an automated notification through email that we have received it.
  3. The application will then be distributed to the respective credit union selection committee and may be subjected to additional criteria.
  4. You will be notified on the status of your application using through the email address you provide in the application.
  5. Only one application per student will be accepted.
  6. The scholarship will be paid jointly to the recipient and the chosen educational institution and is not renewable.

PEI Credit Unions is pleased to offer two $2,000 video scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year, one will be awarded to students entering into their first year of Post-Secondary, and one for Post-Secondary students who have already completed at least one year of their program and are returning in the fall. Instead of writing out why you deserve this scholarship, we ask that you submit a short, self-made (2 minute) video to our Facebook Page (PEI Credit Unions) answering the question:

  • For Entering Students: What has been your biggest financial accomplishment to date?
  • For Returning Students: What is your biggest financial epiphany since you started your Post-Secondary program?

Eligibility Requirements for the Entering Video Scholarships:

  1. Applicant, parent(s), or legal guardian must be an active member of a Credit Union on PEI
  2. The applicant must be a full-time Grade 12 student during the 2017-2018 academic school year.
  3. The applicant must be planning to attend a recognized University or College for the 2018-2019 school year. Please see list of all recognized Universities and Colleges here.

Eligibility Requirements for the Returning Video Scholarship:

  1. Applicant, parent(s), or legal guardian must be an active member of a Credit Union of PEI.
  2. The applicant must be a full-time student at a recognized University or College during the 2017-2018 academic school year. Please see list of all recognized Universities and Colleges here.
  3. The applicant must be planning to return to a recognized University or College for the 2018-2019 school year to continue their program.

 

Video Guidelines:

  • Video must be submitted/posted on the wall of the PEI Credit Unions Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/PEICreditUnions)
  • Videos must be no more than 120 seconds (2 minutes).
  • Please film/create video in a landscape/widescreen aspect
  • The applicant is 100% responsible for all production costs and for the creation of their video (PEI Credit Unions will not be held responsible for any laws broken, violations, etc).
  • All submissions will become the property of PEI Credit Unions  
  • Any submission deemed inappropriate or unsuitable, in PEI Credit Unions discretion, will be disqualified.
  • All Video Scholarship entries must be submitted/posted no later than May 4, 2018.

Evaluation and Selection Criteria

  • Three judging components will be taken into consideration:
    • The number of Likes generated by the video on our Facebook page*
    • Content of the video
    • Quality of the video
  • A selection committee will choose the $2,000 Video Scholarship recipients from all qualified entries based on the evaluation criteria.
  • Decisions of the judges are final with respect to all matters relating to the Video Scholarship contest.
  • The video scholarship recipients will be announced on PEI Credit Unions Facebook Page.

*The number of Likes will not be the single determining factor but will play a part in the evaluation.
